Welcome BRASS Farm!
The following includes a bit about our farm
as well as our mission and farm philosophy.
The 2008 Beginning!  Yes we are new to both American Blackbelly and
Painted Desert Sheep, but please don't dismiss us.  We are NOT new to
breeding quality livestock!  We love developing a strong breeding program
and are very health and quality conscious.  We have raised Arabians and
Section B Welsh Ponies in the past, but after returning to college in 2000
and starting a new career, the intense handling of foals and showing was
too much.  It was difficult, but we sold out most of our herd in 2005.  Some
of the successful ponies born here will posted on our horses page in the
future as well as our current riding horses.

It didn't take long to miss our hobby and after visiting an uncle in Texas we
fell in love with his Boer goats and American Blackbelly Sheep.  Finally in
the summer of 2007 we purchased a LaMoncha Billy Goat "Buster" from a
buy and sell ad on the radio.  Buster was so entertaining we ended up with
three more Boer Goat crosses from neighbors.  We really aren't sure
Buster is much of a financial asset to keeping his place on the farm, but so
far he is still here and ultimately he was the start of a decision to start our
new farm and breeding program.

After a lot of discussion on what would work well with our careers and family
we made the decision to start out with a small number of quality American
Blackbelly Sheep.  We started doing all the research we could on the
Internet due to a lack of farms located in Northern Minnesota and ultimately
have made several purchases from across the states.  In this research we
also discovered the Painted Desert Sheep and have reserved two lambs
from Rafter SB farm in Ohio to be added to our farm in 2009.  We will also
keep our goats, but be moving to a handful of Registered Boer Goats.

Our Mission!  To have fun with our farm!  That aside, we have always
had one priority in mind with breeding any animals - quality rather than
quantity.  Due to the fact this is probably the first true "farm" animal we have
ever raised with an alternative purpose besides being a pet, showing, or
working animal we do feel there is also a place for some quantity.  The fact
that there is a food market must be kept in mind.

Even so, always breeding for conformation and breed standard will remain
a priority with our herd, as well as maintaining strict breeding records.  We
love to travel and plan to do so to continually improve our herds.

We also focus on keeping a farm free of pesticides.  We are not currently
100% organic, but are working to achieve this with using minimal additives
to our stock and moving to certified organic feed.  We will be posting more
information in the future as well as exact vaccinations given to specified
stock.
*****Our flock is registered with the Minnesota Board of Animal Health as part of
the
National Scrapie Eradication Program.
NOTE:  There has never been a known case of Scrapie in American Blackbelly
or Painted Desert Sheep Breeds.
